Quick answer: Fangz collagen chews are the best long-lasting natural chew we've found for Australian dogs. Three ingredients, air-dried for up to four weeks in Brisbane, ~93% protein, and they soften with saliva so they won't fracture teeth. If you have a power chewer who demolishes everything in minutes, or a dog that's cracked a tooth on a yak chew, this is the one. The honest trade-offs are below.
We sell these chews. So why write a review of our own product?
Because if we don't, someone else will. And they'll get the details wrong, skip the trade-offs, and you'll buy based on a post written by someone who's never actually handled one of our chews. We'd rather be the ones to tell you exactly what Fangz is, where it excels, and the three situations where it probably isn't the right call.
That's the deal. No spin.
What Are Fangz Chews, Exactly?
Fangz are long-lasting collagen chews, handmade in Brisbane by Helen and John. Every chew is air-dried slowly over two to four weeks in a human-grade facility using 100% Australian ingredients.
Three ingredients per chew. That's it. Beef collagen, beef gelatine, and one superfood powder, depending on the flavour.
Four flavours:
- Pumpkin (beef collagen, beef gelatine, pumpkin powder): tummy-friendly, mild
- Beetroot (beef collagen, beef gelatine, dried beetroot powder): iron and folate
- Beef + Spirulina (beef collagen, beef gelatine, spirulina powder): greens and protein
- Goat's Milk (beef collagen, beef gelatine, goat milk powder): mild and creamy, ~82% protein / ~2% fat
Three sizes: Small (dogs under 8kg, ~50g), Medium (8 to 15kg, ~100g), Large (over 15kg, ~150g).
No preservatives. No additives. No fillers. Odourless. Shelf life of about two years sealed. You can mix flavours and sizes on the Fangz Build Your Pack page.
How Long Do Fangz Actually Last?
This is the question that matters. The honest answer: hours at minimum, not minutes. That's the floor across all three sizes and all four flavours. A single chew more likely lasts days to weeks depending on the dog and how intensely they chew per session.
The mechanism is the air-drying process. When collagen is dried slowly over weeks, it compresses into a dense structure that even power chewers can't tear through quickly. It's not hard in the way a yak chew or antler is hard. It gives. It softens further as your dog chews. But it doesn't collapse. Your dog picks it up, chews for a session, puts it down, and there's chew left for next time.
Compare that to bully sticks, which typically last 15 to 45 minutes for a medium-to-large dog. Or dental chews like Dentastix, which most dogs finish in under five minutes.

The Safety Differentiator (and Why It Matters More Than Most People Realise)
The most important thing about Fangz is also the least obvious on the pack.
Fangz softens with saliva. As your dog chews, the surface yields gradually. That means there's no fracture point. The chew gets smaller and softer over time, never becoming a rigid spike under load.
Yak chews and antlers work differently. Yak milk chews are pressure-cured to a rock-hard density. Antlers are naturally mineralised and extremely hard. Neither softens under saliva. Both put sustained pressure on tooth enamel, which is how slab fractures happen. Vets call these "slab fractures" and they're one of the most common chew-related injuries they see.
This doesn't mean every dog that chews a yak chew will crack a tooth. But it does mean the risk is real and the mechanism is understood. For more detail on this, read our piece on are yak chews safe for dogs.
Fangz is also digestible. Collagen is a food-grade protein. If your dog swallows a softened piece, it passes normally. That's not true of nylons, synthetic chews, or rawhide, which can cause gastrointestinal obstructions.
The Nutrition Numbers
| Nutrient | Fangz (beef flavours) | Fangz (Goat's Milk) |
|---|---|---|
| Protein | ~93% | ~82% |
| Fat | ~1% | ~2% |
| Sugar | Virtually none | ~2% |
| Preservatives | None | None |
| Artificial additives | None | None |
93% protein with ~1% fat is one of the cleaner macros of any dog chew on the market. Most bully sticks sit around 80 to 90% protein with 2 to 5% fat. Pig ears are comparatively high in fat, with most products ranging from 10 to 25% depending on the brand and processing method.
For a dog on a weight-management plan, or one with pancreatitis history, the fat differential is worth knowing.
The collagen base also means every chew delivers functional protein that supports joint mobility, skin and coat condition, and gut health. This isn't a dental stick with a minty flavour coating. It's doing something nutritional while your dog chews.

Fangz vs the Field: Honest Comparison
| Chew type | Typical duration | Softens with saliva | Tooth fracture risk | Key ingredients |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fangz collagen chew | Hours per session; one chew lasts days to weeks | Yes | Very low | Beef collagen, beef gelatine, one superfood |
| Yak milk chew | 30 min to hours | No | Moderate to high | Compressed yak milk, lime |
| Antler | Hours to days | No | High | Mineralised deer antler |
| Bully stick | 15 to 45 min | Somewhat | Low | Beef pizzle |
| Dentastix (medium dog) | Under 5 min | Yes | Very low | Rice flour, wheat starch, glycerin (as printed on pack) |
| Rawhide | 30 min to hours | Partially | Low (fracture); high (obstruction) | Processed hide, chemicals |
| Nylabone | Very long | No | Moderate | Nylon, synthetic resin |
Duration without tooth fracture risk is the column that matters for most owners. Fangz and bully sticks are the main options that score well on both. Bully sticks lose on duration for power chewers. That's the gap Fangz fills.
Dentastix-style chews use rice flour, wheat starch, and glycerin as their lead ingredients (as printed on the pack). They're very soft and very fast to consume, which limits how much mechanical cleaning they can deliver. They're designed for compliance, not duration. Nothing wrong with that, but they're solving a different problem.
Is Fangz Right for Your Dog?
Yes, if:
- Your dog is a power chewer who destroys most things in minutes
- You've been through yak chews or antlers and had a scare with a tooth
- You want a genuinely clean-label treat you can read in three seconds
- You have a puppy from 4 months old who needs something durable and safe
- You want a chew that does nutritional work, not just entertainment
Worth knowing first:
- Fangz is not the cheapest chew per unit. Cost-per-hour of chew is very low once you account for duration, but the sticker price is higher than a Dentastix multipack. That's a deliberate trade-off.
- Fangz is made in small batches in Brisbane. We're not a warehouse operation, so we do run out periodically.
- If your dog is a gulp-swallower who doesn't actually chew (some dogs do this), a supervised session and soaking the end in warm water for five minutes can help, but this chew works best with dogs who chew rather than inhale.

Puppy and Senior Dog Notes
Fangz is puppy-safe from 4 months old. The Goat's Milk flavour is the gentlest option for new chewers, with the mildest flavour profile and a softer texture. Start with a Small even if your puppy is growing fast.
For senior dogs with older teeth or dogs that have had dental work, the fact that Fangz softens is exactly the right property. Antlers and yak chews are the worst option for older teeth. Fangz is one of the better ones. Collagen also supports joint mobility, which matters for older dogs, as it is a key structural component of cartilage and connective tissue.
The Verdict
We designed Fangz to do one thing better than everything else: last hours without breaking teeth, with ingredients you can actually name.
It does that. The air-drying process is the reason. Three ingredients is the proof of intent. Brisbane, handmade by Helen and John, is where it comes from.
If duration and tooth safety are your two requirements, Fangz is the answer. The cost-per-hour-of-chew is lower than most chews on the market when you run the maths, even if the per-chew price is higher.
Try one. We offer a refund if your dog doesn't love it.
